It has traditionally been said that solid wood flooring over underfloor heating systems is not a good idea, with engineered wood being preferable. However, this is not always the case. As long as the wood has been dried to the appropriate level, cut and treated in the appropriate way, solid wood flooring over underfloor heating systems is certainly a viable option. The choice of wood is also a relevant factor in its durability in fluctuating temperature conditions.
This project utilised New French Oak to maintain a solid wood appearance, which is of a higher quality compared to engineered boards or laminate. Knots were plugged with oak and the surface hand-finished with square edges to enhance the great look of this type of wood, and laid on an underfloor heating system.
