For this pine flooring Hertfordshire project, we used solid white spruce pine reclaimed scaffold boards to create flooring that is full of character and rich in colour at a much lower cost than antique oak.
We only select from timber that is 5-10 years old which is finally devoid of sap that adversely affects the absorption of stains and wax. Boards are kiln-dried to prevent the laid floor from moving, before our skilled craftsmen plane the underside and hand-dress the top to create a rustic texture whilst retaining the character of the wood’s heritage.
Scaffold boards are typically characterised by markings from heavy wear and industrial use and are ideal for flooring in high-traffic areas, environments with young children or creative workspaces. Where other types of flooring might be spoiled by damage, any new markings or scratches simply add to the character of this type of floor…it gets better with more wear and tear!
Working with you to create your ideal finish, we can provide reclaimed scaffold board flooring in lighter or darker hues with a variety of finish options. We can retain and enhance the natural worn character or we can plane boards back to a pristine, smooth surface. As our boards are kiln-dried, they can be glued with no risk of movement, though rosehead nails or screw-and-pellet fixings can enhance an industrial aesthetic.
As with all of our solid wood flooring, colour and texture vary across an entire flooring area. We highly recommend a visit to our workshop to view samples and discuss your unique requirements. Whilst reclaimed scaffold boards cost less per metre than antique oak, our years of experience and expertise are included as standard. Contact Heritage Reclamation to discuss your requirements.
